Persuasive Copywriting: Want vs Need
Does your customer want your product or service or merely need it?
Your chances of success increase dramatically if they want it rather just need it.
Needing won’t actually move the needle much.
Do you keep putting off a haircut, repairing the fridge, fixing a leaking tap?
That gadget you were waiting for just hit the stores.
You want it. Now.
A thunderstorm won’t hold you back.
What just happened here?
The motivation triggered by need is nowhere as colossal as the one triggered by want.
Think impulse buying at the checkout counter in the mall.
Did you really need that packet of aromatic candles when you already had three unopened packets at home?
But, you want it for some vague reason that even you’re at a loss to really explain.
That’s what clever marketing does.
It stirs you at a very deep, primitive level so that actions become almost automated.
Thinking gets suspended. You’re driven by a force stronger than yourself.
The copywriter who can make their reader transition from need to want, is the one I’ll put my money on.
